St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities Receives The Laura Bush Award from BEAR

BE A Resource (BEAR) for CPS Kids honored St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities with The Laura Bush Award at their annual 2007 luncheon at the River Oaks Country Club. Mary Green, BEAR director, presented Mrs. Celene Meyer, SLEHC director of grants and evaluation, with The Laura Bush Award for the valuable support SLEHC has provided BEAR. Ms. Green noted the enabling grant support SLEHC has provided BEAR, in addition to the capacity building tools such as the Donor/Prospect Management Database located on The Charities website as she presented the award.

BE A Resource for CPS Kids was formed to provide hope and help to abused and neglected children and the caseworkers that protect them. Specifically, hundreds of children have been protected by the car seats provided through the SLEHC grants. Thousands of children are able to brush their teeth, wash their hair and take a bath with the hygiene items funded by SLEHC.

In 2007, it is anticipated that more than 18,000 children will be under the care of Child Protective Services (CPS) in Harris County. BEAR estimates that it will be able to serve over two-thirds of these children with current resources. It is the goal of BEAR to serve every CPS child who has a need.
