Child Well-Being Index,
Austin
County, Texas, 1999

The following factors comprise the Child Well-Being Index1,2:

  • Proportion of female head of householdsa
  • The infant mortality rate (averaged for 3 years)b
  • Mortality of children ages 1 to 14 (averaged for 3 years)c
  • Proportion of children in povertya
  • Proportion of low birth weight (averaged for 3 years)b
  • Proportion of mothers under the age of 18 (averaged for 3 years)b
  • Proportion of mothers with less than a high school education (averaged for 3 years)b
 


Higher values of the Index suggest higher levels of community well-being. Low values of the Index indicate low levels of Child Well-Being.
