Community-Based Participatory Research

Creating Sustainable Interventions

The Charities uses the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach to establish structures for participation by the people and organizations most affected. The focus is on; breakdowns in social, environmental and community conditions; and ongoing challenges with access and quality of care available to underserved populations.

This method has been employed to reduced famine, disease and poverty in developing countries since the 1970s. It fosters neighborhood research collaborations to identify and reduce health disparities resulting in community residents and partnerships delivering more effective and sustainable interventions and research outcomes.

The Charities' Center for Community-Based Research houses an online Community Health Information System, The Academy for training community research partners and a Scholars in Residence program.

The Charities' collaborative research with underserved populations also enables the Charities' grantmakers to be better funding stewards.
