Matagorda Episcopal Hospital
Outreach Program

Description of the Organization
The Matagorda Episcopal Hospital Outreach Program has been operating since June 1999 serving six rural sites in Matagorda County. The service area has been designated the The Texas Department of Health as a Medically Underserved Area (MUA). The mobile medical unit serves approximately 4,500 people annually and operates year-round Monday through Thursday. MEHOP provides health care and spiritual ministry to the isolated, poor, disadvantages, disabled and to those who are otherwise unable to access mainstream health care systems regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. Primary health care is provided by way of acute care on a minor emergency basis, chronic care, community screening, wellness and health education activities. MEHOP is also a teaching facility for Houston Baptist University and the University of Houston School of Social Work.

Mission
The MEHOP Mission is to bring the healing hands of God into all corners of Matagorda County to share the love and hope that comes when the Holy Spirit calls us to minister to others.

The MEHOP Vision is two fold:

  1. To serve as an evangelist outreach.
  2. To provide medical services to the underserved population.
