Houston Health Department


Description of the Organization The Houston Health Department HIV Prevention Program Mobile Education and Outreach Testing Unit has been operating in Houston and eight surrounding counties for two years. The goal of the unit is to prevent the spread of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases through education and testing. More than 5,000 clients are served annually. The mobile unit operates Sunday-Saturday on a year-round basis. HCHD STD Program, HIV Prevention Community Based Organizations, School Districts, and other Health Departments are all collaborators with the project.

Mission Statement
The mission of the HIV/STD Mobile Outreach Unit is to provide education, testing, and referral services to prevent the spread of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases. In carrying out this mission, the Mobile unit and its staff maintain the utmost level of professionalism and compassion. Each client receives respect, courtesy and confidentiality at all times.
