Houston Defender
St. Luke's publishes the "Our Health" section in the Houston Defender on the fourth week of the month. In addition to articles on a variety of health topics, this section also publicizes community-based programs and activities supported by St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities.

March, 2007: This issue spotlights National Nutrition Month and shows you how to make southern-style recipes heart healthy. St. Luke's Barbara Bolden Award for Secretarial Excellence awardee Brenda Bell is also featured.

February, 2007: This issue focuses on Heart Month and features a patient who benefited from a life-saving procedure. Cardiologist Wayne Franklin, MD is also featured.

January, 2005: This issue discusses skin disorders that affect African-Americans, profiles a VISTA volunteer in the Fifth Ward, St. Luke's Choir, and Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first professional African-American nurse.

November, 2004: This issue provides helpful information on holiday eating, protecting yourself against the flu, diabetes and the CHOICES program at Kashmere and James Madison High School.

October, 2004: This issue offers information on breast cancer detection, ozone prevention, St. Luke's 50th anniversary, the East End Healthy Children's Collaborative, and a profile of St. Luke's director of organizational development.
