Best Practices:  El Buen Samaritano

Statement of Purpose: St. Luke's Health Charities (SLEHC), in an effort to share useful information regarding lessons learned from our grantees, has created a Best Practices Tool Kit. This Tool Kit contains model products and effective service approaches submitted by our grantees on a broad area of topics. It also contains helpful resource links to answer questions about how these tools can be adapted to similar situations to save time, money, and enhance outcomes.

Purpose: El Buen Samaritano helps poor underserved Hispanic immigrants through health, social and civic organizations.

Background: El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission (EBS) Family Health Outreach Center provides primary health care to Spanish-speaking women and children in the medically underserved area of South Central Austin, TX. EBS is committed to meeting both long and short-term health needs of the underserved by promoting health through education. In addition to the Family Health Center, EBS serves as a trusted community center and offers a comprehensive range of services. These include short-term crisis assistance with food, clothing, and hot meals; after school child care, English as a Second Language, Citizenship, and other classes; assistance with job seeking, advocacy, social work, referral and counseling. EBS collaborates with many other providers to enhance the Mission’s capacity to serve.

Mission: The mission of EBS is to be Christ-centered community seeking to promote and nurture wholeness of body, mind, and spirit for those whom we serve and for ourselves.
